Batsmen sparkle for Wairau Blue

Tarin Mason and Fraser McIntosh scored half centuries as a powerful batting display saw Wairau Blue notch a first-innings win over Wairau Valley in Saturday morning's fourth-grade junior cricket at Oliver Park.
Mason scored an unbeaten 52, McIntosh added 53 and Bradley Horton a quickfire 49 not out as Wairau posted 208 off 32 overs.
Valley were bowled out for 56 in their first innings, Andrew Forgesson top-scoring with 36, and reached 26 for five in their second turn at bat. For Wairau, Horton took three for 11 and McIntosh three for 26.
Wairau White notched a first-innings win over Celtic Gold. Celtic were dismissed for 65 batting first, with Riley Jennings the star for Wairau with five for eight. Wairau replied with 91 for seven, Riley Jennings completing a fine double with 22. Ben Wade took two for 13 for Celtic and Michael Hix two for 22. Celtic reached 46 for two in their second innings with Elliot Robinson 22 not out.
Renwick bounced back from a loss last week to record a first-innings win over Celtic Green. Batting first, Celtic posted 106 for eight behind a fine 50 from Tyler Leigh. Ben Lowes took five for 14 for Renwick. In reply, Renwick reached 152 for five, with Braden Stewart 51 retired and Lowes 31 retired.
In fifth grade, Wairau Rhinos beat Celtic Mini Caps. Batting first, Celtic made just 30, with William van Asch taking three for one. In reply, Wairau reached the target just two wickets down.
Renwick were 153-run winners over Celtic Warriors. Renwick scored 180 for four with Johnny Mackay 33 retired, Michael Davis 30 retired and Scott Denmark 21 retired. Celtic replied with 27.
Wairau Originals also impressed, beating Wairau Valley by 118 runs. Batting first, Wairau accumulated 154, led by Matt Decker 21 retired, Sam Cameron Dunn 23 not out and Vaughan Collins 17 not out, before bowling Valley out for 36.
Witherlea Lions beat Celtic Green.
