Marlborough's primary school representative cricketers traded the red ball for a white one on Sunday to raise money for a trip to the deep south.

Thirteen of Marlborough's most talented young cricketers took to the Blenheim golf course in an inaugural clash of the codes and raised $790 for their trip to Alexandra for the South Island Primary Schools' Tournament in January.

The youngsters, joined on the course by parents and guardians and members of the Blenheim Golf Club, teamed up for a four-ball ambrose.

Blenheim Golf Club vice-president Grenville Robinson said the club was proud to be supporting junior cricket in Marlborough. While most of the young cricketers were first timers to golf, Robinson said most showed an aptitude for the game and enjoyed themselves, with some even able to outdrive the adults.

In a lucky prize draw at the end of the day one young cricketer, Braden Stewart, and his father, Mark Stewart, won free memberships to the Blenheim Golf Club.
