Some of Marlborough's top softballers were rewarded this week with selection in the Southern Pride team to play in the national fast-pitch tournament in Christchurch next month.
Ryan Schollum, Jordan Tulloch and Kyle Marfell will represent the men's team, while Denise Keno, Eileen Eriha and Anthea Stringer made the women's side.
The Southern Pride team is selected from South Island provinces apart from Canterbury.
The super six will get an opportunity next weekend to hone their skills at a higher level when they represent Marlborough in the South Island Jefferies Cup tournament for men and the Jubilee Cup for women in Christchurch.
Tomorrow all six will play for their clubs in another round of the intercity competition.
Wairau White face their second successive double-header in Nelson in the men's competition, after two wins last week.
Colin Hayes' side face a tough task trying to beat both Stoke Eagles and Titans at the Saxton Fields in Nelson.
Hayes said he's down on batting firepower, with Dylan Hayes, Steve King and Hayden Marfell unavailable. Black Sox pitcher Marty Grant is likely to play for the Eagles, which makes Wairau's task even more difficult.
Hayes said he would be happy to come away with one win, although he said the same last week and bagged a double.
Saints should have too many guns for Wairau Black at A and P Park in the 1pm clash.
Kyle Marfell, Jordan Tulloch and Mike Godsall are in good batting form. Marfell will also start on the pitching mound backed up by Shane Parnell if required.
In the women's competition, Saints face Royals and Eagles at the Saxton Fields and two wins would give them a real opportunity to win the title.
Wairau are also in Nelson taking on Royals and R and B at the Saxton Fields, their first match starting at 11am.
