Paddy's Magnum win tough final

Paddy's Magnum triumphed in last week's Fairweathers senior A-grade volleyball league final at Marlborough Lines Stadium.

They edged out Wayward Spikers 2-1 in a close-fought final, the set scores being 25-23, 22-25, 25-23.

Paddy's Magnum were strong, attacking up the middle with Phil Steel and open hitter Tarik Tekin.

Resolute defence and some powerful attacks from Phillip Ligaliga helped the Wayward Spikers back into the match, but Paddy's reasserted their dominance in the final deciding set thanks to outstanding play by man of the match Warrick Wright, well supported by the consistent Nigel Sowman.

In the play-off for third and fourth, Woodbourne beat No Strings in another close battle 2-1, the set scores 25-21, 25-23, 21-25. The result reversed three earlier losses by the side to No Strings.

In the B grade final, Koko Samoa beat Sixes and Sevens 2-1. Standout in the winning team was the experienced Iosefa Leo. Set scores were 25-22, 25-15, 22-25.

In the play-off for third and fourth, Just Woodbourne defeated MBC 2-1 (15-25, 25-20, 25-20).
