One of Marlborough's oldest and most successful sports clubs, the Wairau Rowing Club, celebrates its centenary this year and it reached a notable milestone earlier this week.
The club held its 100th annual meeting at the club's headquarters on the Lower Wairau River near Blenheim and plans are well advanced for the centenary celebrations on November 19-21.
The first Wairau Rowing Club annual meeting was at the Grovetown Hall in July 1910 and the club still has the official minute book from that meeting.
It has already been a notable 100th year for Wairau with several rowers selected in the New Zealand elite, under-23 and junior teams and several others in trials this week at Lake Karapiro for places in the New Zealand squad for the World Championships at the same venue in October and November.
