Five from 12 swimmingly good
Twelve Marlborough swimmers took part in the second swim in the Clements Endurance Series in Nelson at the weekend and managed an impressive five podium placings.
Jodie Lovell was first in the F30-39, Paul Sell and Sally McMath were second in the M40-49 and F16-19 respectively, and Yasmin Gee and Pete Colbert were third in the F40-49 and M60-69 during the 28th Eyebright Mile, a 1.8km swim from Nelson Yacht Club to Tahuna Beach.
The first Marlborough swimmer in was Paul Sell, 11th overall in a time of 27.31, followed by Sally McMath (16th) in 28.39, who was hampered by the fact that she swam without a wetsuit due to a zip malfunction. They were closely followed by Jodie Lovell (17th) 28.55, Pete Colbert (30th) 30.09 and Yasmin Gee (34th) in 30.41.
The other Marlborough swimmers taking part were John Scobie (51st and 7th M60-69), Phil Binnie (57th and 8th M50-59), Mark Batchelor, who swam without a wetsuit by choice (63rd and 9th M50-59), Almuth Waechter (90th and 8th F50-59), Juliette Wiseman (109th and 10th F50-59); Buzz Burrell (124th and 23rd; M50-59) and Emma Sell (126th and 12th F40-49)).
The next swim in the Clements Endurance Series is the Clements Ironman Challenge over 3.8km, on January 18. On the same date Pete Colbert and Jodie Lovell will compete in the 5km and 10km Epic Swims in Lake Taupo.
Blenheim Masters Swimming is taking a break from pool swimming, but will be back at the beginning of February at Stadium 2000 on Thursdays at 7pm.
