Marlborough's two teams in the combined Marlborough-Nelson premier club hockey competition start their season tomorrow in Nelson at the Saxton Fields.

Arotea Kiwi men take on Stoke at 3.30pm, Stoke having beaten Tasman 4-2 in last week's opening round in which Arotea had a bye.

Arotea men's player-coach Brent Edwards said his team were "amping" for a game. He has a team with a core of experience including Malcolm King, Fraser Avery, Jason Dark and promising rookie Hayden Boyce on deck.

Marlborough rep Clay Wilson is unavailable because he's running the Saint Clair Vineyard half marathon.

The Arotea women play Waimai who were thrashed 9-0 by Tasman last Saturday.

The Blenheim-based club includes player/coach Denise Lloyd and her daughters Stacey Lloyd and Pip Lunn, plus a sprinkling of other Marlborough representatives. They would certainly expect to win.

Start time is 1.50pm.
