Former Marlborough Boys' College first XV rugby player Ben O'Keeffe is one of six promising rugby referees named this week in the National Development Squad for potential professional referees of the future.
The group will work closely with New Zealand Rugby's high performance referee team to help develop their skills. The six chosen will attend a training camp in August as well as other workshops throughout the next 12 months.
Now based in Wellington, O'Keeffe occasionally officiates in Marlborough on visits home.
Last Saturday he acted as an assistant referee in the clash between the Harlequins and Renwick and also refereed a division two match at Lansdowne Park.
