Unbeaten Magnum outgun Kinoaths

Unbeaten Magnum remain president's grade favourites in Marlborough Volleyball's Fairweathers Senior Winter League after recording another 3-0 victory at Marlborough Lines Stadium on Thursday night.

Magnum took on Kinoaths in the latest round.

A spirited Kinoaths side contributed to a entertaining first set, won 25-20 by Magnum. The competition leaders' combinations worked better in the second set, with precision play shutting Kinoaths down and securing the match 25-14.

Kinoaths got back into play in the final set and were a more cohesive unit, but Magnum proved too strong and fast at the net as they secured the clean sweep with a 25-21 result.

Second-placed Clippers came up against third-placed Cri Clovers.

It was Clippers who grabbed the initiative, winning a closely contested first set 26-24.


Clippers stepped up in the second set, with top front-court play sealing a 25-22 win, and overall victory.

Cri Clovers continued their battle in the third set and were rewarded with a 25-20 win.

In the other president's grade match, Treefellas scored a 3-0 sweep over Can't Touch This.

The 25-11 25-15 25-15 scoreline indicated a slick display from Treefellas, while Can't Touch This struggled to get their hands on the ball.

In C grade, Smashed 'Em Bro survived a second-set slump to beat Safe Crackers 2-1, while MIA claimed the first two sets for a 2-1 result over JAMASH.

Westmeat Geriatrics produced a sound and sensible display of volleyball to overcome Marlborough Boys' College 3-0.

President's grade: Clippers beat Cri Clovers 2-1, Magnum beat Kinoaths 3-0, Treefellas beat Can't Touch This 3-0.

C grade: Smashed 'Em Bro beat Safe Crackers 2-1, MIA beat JAMASH 2-1, Westmeat Geriatrics beat MBC 3-0.

Mixed grade: Desperate Housewives beat The A-Team 2-1, Meaters beat Safe Air Social 2-1, Playschool beat Six Pack Dreamers 3-0.

Social grade: Team Wilson beat Mambo No7 3-0, International beat Theorists 3-0.
