Marlborough Boys' College v St Bede's College

First XI football and junior basketball flew the flag for Marlborough Boys' College when St Bede's College, of Christchurch, travelled north for the annual sporting exchange between the two schools on Tuesday.

Nine matches were played in total and the visitors took out the overall exchange comfortably by winning five events to MBC's two. Two ties, the junior football (2-2) and golf, were drawn.

St Bede's easily won the under-14 rugby and hockey, but their victories in the under-15 rugby and senior basketball were much tighter. MBC prevailed 2-1 in the first XI football, while the home school's junior basketballers produced a superb effort to beat the St Bedes under-17 side by two points.

Despite the wet conditions some of the matches were played in, MBC sports co-ordinator Bridget Gane said competitors from both schools thoroughly enjoyed the exchange.
