The strong combination of Gerard van Antwerpen and Jeremy McKenzie repeated last year's performance to retain Cuddon Cycling Marlborough's Geddes Memorial Cup two-up time trial event at Renwick on Saturday afternoon.
The 40-kilometre open grade event drew a small field with riders encountering good conditions on the outward journey with a stiff head wind home. Van Antwerpen and McKenzie recorded a good time outward (27min 25sec) to finish on 58min 33sec even though the course was slightly longer than usual.
The minor placings went to Martin Fletcher/Brent Ackroyd (62:23) and Dave Grono/Graham Henderson (66:49). The sealed handicap cup was won by the Mike McManaway/Rene de Ruiter pair by 59 seconds from Fletcher/Ackroyd with another nine seconds back to Rhonda Murphy/Craig Murphy in third place.
