Tasman tennis had good cause to celebrate at the weekend as the junior side scored an impressive win over their Canterbury counterparts at the Forrest Winery Marlborough Tennis Centre.
The 24 Marlborough and Nelson players were matched with players of similar age and level from Canterbury and it was Tasman who came away with an emphatic 36-28 victory.
The 14 and under division was where Tasman were at their most dominant, winning 13-7 and paving the way for an eight-point winning margin following an even 12 and under section and a narrow two-point win in the 16 and under grade.
Marlborough Tennis Centre operations manager Rob Wilkinson said the contest provided a great opportunity to benchmark local players against Canterbury and the result will likely see a stronger Canterbury team selected in 2013.
Focus for Marlborough tennis now switches to the premier, presidents and primary competitions, the latter growing from 46 teams last season to 55 this year.
