Dallas Rongokea and Jake Southey provided the two major individual highlights for Marlborough athletes during Sunday's annual Winstone Cup junior athletics competition at Athletic Park in Blenheim.
Both set Tasman Centre records, Rongokea setting a new mark in the five years discus competition, throwing 2.1 metres further than the previous mark with his effort of 9.06m.
Southey smashed the 13 years 80m hurdles record, clocking 12.09sec, beating the previous mark of 13.1.
Marlborough had a strong contingent of 68 athletes competing in the various age groups and disciplines and although hopes were high they would prevail and win the cup, Richmond prevailed, the winning margin 43 points with Marlborough second.
Other Marlborough athletes to win events were Cooper Roberts, Tiarna Nukunuku, Eric Lawson, Peyton Ritchie, Erin Green, Sophia Sidley, Jade Otway, Aliya Mottus, Ayla Goodwin-Lister, Tessa Williams, Joseph Westend, James Southey, Lucy Sheat, Veli van Rensburg, Owen Sidley, Patrick Neal, Henry Aitken, Kimberley Fearn, Oliver Lawson, Torban Otway, Mya Wiapo, Taine Vanstone, Louis Butson, Ruby Wybourne, Finn Southey, Jack Holdaway.
