An 18-kilometre run through the Marlborough Sounds was a "fitting" end to celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Outward Bound, half-marathon winner Nick White says.
More than 70 former students took part in the Alumni Half-Marathon which started at Torea Bay, climbed the Torea Saddle and finished at Anakiwa along the Queen Charlotte Track in Queen Charlotte Sound on November 24.
A half-marathon is the traditional end of every 21-day Outward Bound course and the alumni's efforts were held with current students completing their course.
Outward Bound counsellor Nick White, who completed a classic course in 2000, won the half-marathon with a time of 1 hour and 48 minutes.
"Coming up the hill climb from Torea Bay was hard going, but the views along the ridges were spectacular."
The first woman was Leah Neilson, who completed a classic course in 2010, with a time of 2 hours and 3 minutes.
