Drylands Winery reclaimed the Drylands Marlborough Wine Industry Tennis Tournament title on Saturday when they overcame the three-time defending champion Saint Clair Grinners in a tightly contested final at the Rapaura club.
Eleven teams entered in the annual event on the grass courts at Rapaura and, after heavy rain on Friday night, play began on Saturday with only a slight delay.
Both Drylands and Saint Clair went through pool play unbeaten, Drylands winning five matches and Saint Clair four. The final went down to the wire, but eventually it was the Drylands team of Peter Rogge, Anthony Walkenhorst, Brendon Sutherland and Jason Flowerday who won 9-8. Neil Sonne, Graeme Bird, Naera Parata and Phil Sowman made up the Saint Clair team.
The Edge (Dene Cross, Owen Dodson, Gary Tait and Simon Clark) defeated Giesen Wines (Nick Winter, Joshua Winter, Nigel Sowman, Donna Clark) 12-2 in the playoff for third.
