Climax for junior sides
Junior touch for 2012 winds up tonight with the junior finals being staged at Lansdowne Park.
All teams will play for a final placing based on results from throughout the season.
An even spread of schools will contest the finals this season. Seddon will make their first final appearance, contesting the year 4 and year 7/8 section 4 deciders.
Renwick are contesting four finals across the grades and St Mary's and Springlands two each in the year 5/6 grades.
The grand final of year 7/8 section 1 is shaping up to be a cracker with Bohally LCs and Renwick All Stars evenly matched in every position. Sitting on equal points with one win a piece and Renwick winning by one try in their last encounter, it will be a tight game. Nic Murray against Logan Robinson will be the key match-up as both direct their teams around the park.
In year 7/8 section 2 Ward Warriors, who have set the pace all season, will meet a Riverlands team back to full fitness with Braeden Healy returning from a knee injury. The strength of the Ward girls rep players Brooke Thompson and Evie MacFarlane might make the difference.
Springlands go into the final of the year 5/6 section 1 grade as hot favourites. Key playmaker Thomas Downes will prove a handful for St Mary's, with his speed from dummy half.
The year 4 section 1 final will be a fast and furious affair, with the youngest players racing around the field. Seddon have speed with Eric Lawson and Lucinda Judge leading the way, but Renwick Avatars have Georgia Reed and Kyla Otway, who are playing excellent touch and can play a structured game if needed.
All games will take place on the No 1 rugby field, which adds to the occasion and allows parents and supporters a great view. Games tap off early from 3.30pm. Afterwards grade winners will receive their trophies and junior players of the year will be announced.
