Tasman lose last match to Aorangi
For the second consecutive year, the Tasman women's golf team have placed 14th at the Toro Interprovincials after they lost their final match of the tournament against Aorangi 4-1 at the St Clair club in Dunedin on Saturday.
Unable to register a win in six round-robin ties over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Tasman placed seventh and last in division two. They had a bye in the seventh and final round on Friday, then took on Aorangi, the seventh-placed team from division one, in the playoff for 13th on Saturday morning.
Both sides were looking to finish the annual event with their first and only win and, unfortunately for Tasman, it was Aorangi who managed to do just that.
No 3 Emily Greenhough, of Motueka, was the lone Tasman player to win her match when she beat Ginny Bolderston 3 and 2. Tasman No 1 Emily Stenhouse, of the Marlborough club, took her match against Catherine Bell all the way to the 18th, but was eventually defeated two down.
Auckland defended their interprovincial title, beating Wellington 3-2 in a thrilling final on Saturday afternoon.
