Close finishes were the order of the night in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough's Cycle World Graded Race No 4 at Fairhall on Wednesday evening.
The A grade 40km event over four laps of Benmorven, finishing on the flat into the Ridge Resort, drew only a small field with Gerard van Antwerpen taking advantage to increase his series lead with a sprint win over Brodie Catterick and Lee Griggs.
The B grade 31km event still saw 11 riders in contention with 2km to go. A strong attack by Kevin Bishell one kilometre out spread the riders. Junior under-19 rider Dylan Vile impressed to run down Bishell 10m from the line to become equal series leader with Ethan Batt. Craig Anderson took third place just ahead of Graham Henderson and Luc Cowley.
The C grade 31km event was a close affair with all riders participating in the sprint finish. Approximately half a bike length separated the first three riders with Warren Hall getting the nod from Merrick Thompson and Grant Clifford. Series leader Chrisopher Grammer was fourth just ahead of Hugh Trollope and Susan van der Pol.
The D grade 22km event was dominated by series leader Shaun Woods who headed off Dagmar and Niels van Antwerpen.
