Central Districts were very much on the back foot following the first day of their third and final two-day match of the under-17 quad tournament, against hosts Canterbury in Christchurch yesterday.
Coming off victories over Wellington and Otago, Canterbury batted first against CD at Burnside Park and posted 288.
Marlborough players Nick Weaver and Josh Clarkson picked up two wickets each, left-arm seamer Weaver taking 2-34 from 12 overs and right-arm seamer Clarkson bagging 2-55 from 13.2.
In reply, CD were in real trouble by the end of the day at 75 for 7 after 22 overs.
Clarkson was unable to continue his run-scoring form, dismissed for 12 off 27 balls.
Marlborough wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Stretch was out for a five-ball duck.
The match was to finish today.
