Kepes seals spot in under-21s
Marlborough's Gabriel Kepes has been named in the New Zealand under-21 men's hockey team to contest a qualifying tournament on Queensland's Gold Coast next month.
Kepes plays for the Marlborough senior men's representative team and the Capital under-21 team based in Wellington.
Former Marlborough men's captain/coach and Black Sticks assistant coach Chris Leslie is coaching the NZ under-21 women's team.
The Junior Black Sticks teams aim to qualify and then take on 15 other teams at the 2013 Junior World Cup.
Head coaches Leslie and Grant Edwards (men's team) have announced the 18 players selected for the Oceania Junior World Cup qualifier to be held on the Gold Coast next month.
The qualifier will see the Kiwi teams take on Australia, Samoa and Papua New Guinea with the men also playing against Vanuatu. The top two men's and women's teams will book their places in their World Cups.
The two women's teams that qualify from Oceania will face Argentina, Belgium, Canada, China, England, Spain, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Korea, Netherlands, South Africa and United States at the Junior World Cup. in July. The two men's teams that qualify from Oceania will face Argentina, Belgium, Canada, England, Spain, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Pakistan and South Africa at the Junior World Cup in December.
