No holding back Smit in heat

Dale Smit and Jess Barnes were the big winners at Tuesday night's Marlborough Athletics Club meeting at Athletic Park.

In hot conditions, Smit took the 10,000m club title, clocking a personal best 37min 55.7sec while Barnes won the 3000m title in 13.58.00, Tracey Sims next three minutes back.

Billy Rayner edged out Andrew Watson in the men's javelin while India Ross took out the women's event from Barnes.

Next Tuesday is a light training night in preparation for the annual Mahar Cup representative event at Greymouth on February 9.

Anyone 15 years and over are invited to compete and confirm their entry by turning up to Athletic Park on Tuesday at 5.30pm.

Also on February 9, is the popular Buller Marathon, which attracts a strong contingent of Marlborough athletes.
