Ron Adams headed a solid Marlborough showing in last Saturday's annual Buller Marathon and half marathon events in Westport.
The Marlborough Harrier Club veteran's hard training paid off with a creditable 10th placing in the 50-59 age group, recording 3hr 37min 16sec.
Glenda Garing-Phelan, in just her second full marathon, came home fourth in the 45-54 age group, clocking 3:53.50.
In the half marathon, Robbie Barnes was Marlborough's best, finishing in a smart 1:18.23 for eighth overall and winning the 50-59 years section.
Kevin Ellis was another age-group winner for Marlborough, claiming the 50-59 years section in 1:28.
Barnes' daughter, Jess, capped off a good day for the family, finishing third in the female under-20 section in 1:34.51.
Lionel Graham ran another fine race to finish third in the 60-69 years category in 1:36.19.
The best of the Marlborough walkers were Leanne Barnes, seventh in the 35-44 group in 2:50.24, and John Baxter, eighth in the men's 60-69 group in 2:46.17.
More than 1600 athletes took part in the various divisions in ideal, overcast conditions, with a cooling breeze for competitors in the Buller Gorge.
