The 2013 season for the Marlborough Indoor Bowls Association gets under way early next month with many of the clubs having their "roll-ups" during the first two weeks. The Marlborough Association's first midweek tournament is on Tuesday, April 2.
New members will be most welcome at all of Marlborough's 10 clubs, says indoor bowls publicity officer Eric Percy. He is excited about the approaching season for this "sport for all ages" which, like its outdoor counterpart, is attracting younger players.
"Last season two of Marlborough's most promising players were teenagers," said Percy.
"Gone is the theory that the sport is only for the ageing generation. It is a great family sport for all ages. When the North Island representative side played here last season the average age was approximately late 30s with a number of top players in their early 20s or younger.
"One of the biggest advantages of indoor bowls is that being played indoors, the weather cannot affect play and no matter what age you are there is a place for you, whether you just want to play socially or be more competitive and strive for Marlborough representation."
