Marlborough Boys' College and new team Woody Flyers scored 2-1 victories in the president's grade round two matches of the Marlborough Volleyball Club's Fairweathers Senior Summer League on Thursday night.
First up at Marlborough Lines Stadium, MBC faced Kinoaths, who fielded a stronger team than in round one.
MBC were always in control in the first set and strong hitting from Cameron Steele saw them take the early lead, 25-18.
In the second set, coach Cris Phelan made several changes but his charges still proved too good as they sealed the win, 25-16.
Kinoaths finally started to work as a unit in the third set.
After leading 17-7, they held on to claim a consolation point.
In the other president's grade encounter, Woody Flyers fed on early Treefellas' mistakes, taking the first set, 25-13. Treefellas fought back in a second set that went down to the wire before Woody Flyers triumphed, 27-25.
The third set was equally competitive, with Treefellas collecting a point for their efforts as they came out on top, 25-23.
In C grade, Smashed 'Em Bro beat Safe Crackers, 2-1, in an entertaining match. Westmeat Geriatrics came from a set behind to down MBC Year 10 and Wadsco Giants overcame MGC Gold, 2-1.
