Season ends with defeat
The 2013 season has ended for the history-making Marlborough Boys' College 1st XV rugby team.
Despite a brave late fightback under the roof at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin the NZ King Salmon MBC side were beaten 26-20 by Otago Boys' High School in the South Island Secondary Schools final this afternoon.
The home side led 13-6 at halftime after they scored an intercept try right with the last play of the first half and 13 minutes into the second spell had one hand on the silverware with a 23-6 advantage.
However, Press Cup winners MBC had not waved the white flag and fought their way back into the match, tries to Bevan Moody and TC Campbell bringing them within three with six minutes remaining.
It was not to be, though, Otago BHS kicking a penalty and holding on in the tense final stages to wrap up the South Island title for the second straight year.
