Honk N Jack, skippered by Scott Fyfe, claimed first blood when the Waikawa Yacht Club's Vining Shipbrokers Twilight Mini Series began on Tuesday evening.

Second came Oldsmobile with Aaron Blackmore as skipper, with Flying Fox and Chris Williams third and Reprieve coming fourth under Matt Michel.

The first night of the new series saw light breezes and a good turnout of 36 yachts. A Mark Foy handicap start separated the field by 23 minutes initially. But as the light nor'wester dropped, the second half of the fleet bunched up at the first mark. This made for close racing towards the third mark. With the wind picking up on the reach to the finish, some of the back markers came through from behind to take the final placings.

This is the first race of a four-race series. No spinnakers or gennakers can be used in this "white sail" series, meaning lots of fun and inclusive racing. Organisers were pleased the fleet all finished within 30 minutes of each other.
