Marlborough put in mixed efforts
Marlborough had two first innings victories and an outright loss at the Central Districts under-15 representative cricket tournament played at Rathkeale College in Masterton last week.
Manawatu were Marlborough's first opponents on Monday and proved too good as they resigned Marlborough to an outright loss. However, Marlborough bounced back in their next two matches, collecting first innings wins over Horowhenua-Kapiti and Wairarapa.
On Tuesday, a superb century to Heath Murphy saw Marlborough post 244-6 declared against Horowhenua-Kapiti. Batting at No 4, Murphy hit 114 off 129 balls and found ideal support from No 6 Nic Murray, who struck 71 off 71. Marlborough had Horowhenua-Kapiti out for 169, Matt Weaver taking 4-45 from 12 overs.
Wednesday's match against Wairarapa was dominated by Marlborough. They bowled first and dismissed Wairarapa for just 57, Matt Deaker taking 4-10 from six overs and Murphy bagging three wickets in 3.4 overs without conceding a run.
Marlborough then made 209-9 before declaring, Murphy again to the fore with 65 off 72 balls and Harry MacDonald matching that effort with 65 off 99. Wairarapa reached 47-3 in their second innings, Deaker taking 2-13 from 4.1 overs.
