King and Queen of the Withers
Nelson's Simon Leaning and Marlborough's Megan Craig were crowned King and Queen of the Withers on Saturday morning.
Leaning won the testing 10km hill run in a smart time of 44 minutes 10 seconds but it was Craig who turned heads. The rising squash star came second overall, just a few paces behind Leaning, in a women's record time of 44.22, an improvement of more than four minutes on her winning time last year. The previous women's record of 45.28 was set by New Zealand Olympic triathlete Andrea Hewitt in 2009.
Comprehensive reports will run in Monday's Express.
