Saints Rams maintained their winning momentum in the Marlborough senior softball comprehensively beating Central 6-0 at A & P Park on Thursday.
Rams were firm favourites but Central made them work for their victory, taking the match to the seventh inning.
Catcher Ryan Schollum gave Rams a solid start with a three-base hit in their first innings, coming home on a fielder's choice on a pickoff at first base.
Central, with Nick De Boo on the mound, restricted the first-inning damage to one run but struggled to mount an offence against the pitching of Black Sox hopeful Kurt Schollum, who struck out 16 of the 22 batters he faced while not conceding a hit or a walk.
However, it took until the fourth inning for Rams to add to their run tally. Michael Ryan hit a single first up before another triple to Ryan Schollum brought Ryan home and then he scored himself on a wild pitch. Hayden Marfell was walked then came home on an infield error to put Rams ahead 4-0. Drew Roberts added another in the fifth then Ryan Schollum, who managed four hits from four, stepped up again at the top of the sixth with a two-base hit before crossing home plate thanks to a sacrifice hit by Hayden Marfell.
De Boo turned in a steady pitching performance for Central, striking out 13 of 31 batters.
Saturday's match between Central and Saints Aces was deferred.
