Celtic are the Marlborough Cricket Association 50-over champions after beating Wairau Valley in a low-scoring encounter at Horton Park today.
Celtic batted first and, while initially disappointed with their total of 163, they bowled and fielded superbly to claim the final wicket with Valley still seven runs short of victory.
The second grade title was won by United Country Vineyard Cricket club in their first year of existence. Batting first they made 281-8 thanks to an Ed Allen century and, although Picton batted well, they came up well short at 238-7.
Wairau claimed the third grade crown on Horton Park three, dismissing Wairau Valley for 109 and reaching the total for the loss of just two wickets.
Premier rugby kicked off today in bright sunshine this afternoon, with Central, Moutere and Waitohi notching first-up wins.
The Blues eased past Harlequins 19-10 at rugby headquarters, Moutere accounted for Renwick 36-15 at Renwick while Waitohi overcame Awatere in Seddon, 26-21.
In senior A, Moutere beat Renwick 30-22, Awatere hammered Waitohi 48-0 and Kaikoura dismantled Pelorus 70-5.
