Marlborough Boys' College crews scooped two gold medals and one silver at the Maadi Cup secondary schools rowing regatta which concluded on Lake Ruataniwha near Twizel today.
On Friday the MBC under 16 coxed quad of Robson Davies, Isaiah Miller, Angus McFarlane, Leith Gilmore and coxswain Trent Burbidge claimed first place in their A final while the under 18 lightweight coxed four of Campbell Stevens, Zack Andrews, Jordon Gasson, Rainer Wichman and Burbidge finished second in their final to bag a silver medal.
Today, the under 16 eight of Stevens, Greg Hyson, Davies, Miller, Jack Delaveau, McFarlane, Cameron Donald, Gasson and cox Alex Hill bagged the college's second gold, beating the strong Hamilton crew by over two seconds.
Harlequins and Awatere scored wins in the second round of premier club rugby today, while Central and Waitohi fought out a draw at rugby headquarters.
In Spring Creek, an unstoppable Harlequins outfit, stung by a first round loss to Central, led the home side 33-7 at halftime, before the Magpies came roaring back. Three second half tries saw them move within reach at 33-24 before the Quins clinched it with their fourth try with just four minutes to play, the final score 40-31.
In the battle of the first round winners at Lansdowne Park, Waitohi led 15-7 at halftime but Central fought back to share the points in a 23-23 stalemate.
Awatere overcame Renwick 32-21 at Car Horn Valley to register their first win of the season.
In senior A play Pelorus beat Waitohi 73-10, Renwick downed Awatere 47-14, Kaikoura tipped over Central 49-14 and Moutere accounted for Harlequins 37-27.
