Special launch for Kiwi movie featuring Kaikoura's own Mayfair Theatre
Kaikoura's Mayfair Theatre is preparing for a special launch of independent film The Greenstone.
Set in New Zealand, The Greenstone is the story of a young South African girl, Jade, played by Cele Du Plessis, who travels to New Zealand in search of her biological father.
The film features a scene in which Jade is seen driving past Kaikoura's very own Mayfair Theatre along with other glimpses of Kaikoura's landscape.
Other New Zealand landmarks feature in the movie, which includes a focus on the continuing struggle to rebuild post-quake Christchurch.
To launch this film at The Mayfair, Cele Du Plessis and the film's directors and producers will be attending an opening night on Sunday, May 29 at 6.45pm.
They will give a short presentation and will be available to answer questions and have photos taken before and after the movie.
Mayfair Theatre chairman John Wyatt said the committee was passionate about putting on a range of different events.
"We want to give the whole Kaikoura community a number of reasons to visit our unique theatre each year," he said.
"The New Zealand film industry is in great shape and films made in and about New Zealand are popular well beyond our own shores.
"It is important that Kaikoura has access to all that as well."
The evening would be a great opportunity for budding young film-makers and actors to rub shoulders with up-and-coming stars in the industry, he said.
The film-makers will be touring other cinemas across New Zealand and will be making donations to Palmerston North's Wildbase Recovery, the only dedicated wildlife hospital in New Zealand.
