Free fun and games at Renwick gala
Organisers of the Renwick Anglican Church Gala have ramped up their efforts and are promising a bigger and better event this year.
The gala, which enters its second year, will have a raft of free games and entertainment, live music, stalls, an art exhibition, giveaways and food and drink on sale.
Organiser Tony Sorenson says the live music will run throughout the event, from 10am to 2pm, courtesy of the Society of Ukelele Performers from Picton, the Marlborough Sounds Chorus barbershop singers, performers from the Blenheim Country Music Club and a jazz trio.
Church vicar reverend Joe Keighley, says this year's gala is a true community event. "We wanted to make something that everyone can come along to so just about everything is free.
"We will do a little fundraising through sale of refreshments and the like, but mostly this is just a chance for the community to get together for fellowship and fun. Absolutely everyone is welcome."
There will be plenty games on offer like gumboot throwing, plate smashing and "whack-a-rat", as well as the obligatory bouncy castle, Tony says.
There will also be a chance to sit in a fire engine from the Renwick Volunteer Fire Brigade.
An new attraction for this year is a display of art in the church hall, including some from well-known artists Elsie Hall, Walter Scott and Coral Theil, Tony says.
The gala will be held at the Renwick Anglican Church, 54 High St, Renwick.
