The Havelock Mussel Festival will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary on Saturday, March 15 at the Havelock Domain. 

Organised in conjunction with Marlborough 4 Fun there will be an excellent entertainment line-up set to dazzle all ages, and plenty of kid-focused activities in the NIWA Kidzone.  All alongside the heaps of usual festival -favourites such as Kono Mussel opening competitions, the New Zealand King Salmon Cooking demos - featuring MasterChef NZ 2012 winner Chelsea Winter, along with the vast array of stalls and beer and wine options on offer.

The Havelock Mussel Festival promises a great day for the whole family.

Main stage entertainers include Seven Days team leader and the voice of Pak n Save Paul Ego.  There will also be New Zealand's hottest girl group The Hollywoods providing a great repertoire, snazzy costumes and choreography that are sure to be a hit at the festival.  In addition supporting will be local Jazz Band Frenzi and our very own successful Little Oceans (previously Recommended by your Mom) who will combine their energetic pop punk roots with more produced electronic sound to round up the day.

The NIWA Kidzone will be keeping young ones entertained with a fantastic variety of entertainment including children's entertainer Adrian Kirk, Wendy the Balloon Fairy, heaps of inflatables, facepainting and Barnardos parents area.

The Marine Farming Industry Tent will once again be a hive of activity showcasing this fantastic industry that has put Havelock well and truly on the map. Take a look at the 'live' displays and learn all about the aquaculture industry.

The New Zealand King Salmon Cooking Demo Marquee will be a popular feature so be sur to get a seat early!   MasterChef winner 2012 Chelsea Winter will be showcasing recipes for mussels and salmon including Mussels in Thai Green Coconut Sauce, Mussel Fritters and Salmon Wellingons with chilli.

There will also be delicious wine tasting with Yealands Estate Wine and a display and samples from New Zealand King Salmon.

Chris Fortune will be visiting two rural schools with his Mobile Learning Kitchen prior to the festival and then demos with students on the day.

Competitions for this year

Kono NZ Mussel Opening Competition - Individuals and teams will be pitting their skills against each other in an impressive, action-packed competition including the Guinness Book of Records attempt. Opening 100 mussels in the fastest time.

Mussel Munch - Enter this fun competition on the day ($5 entry) or watch the biggest eaters in the business race to down a pottle of mussels and scull a beverage in the shortest time.

A new event this More FM "Show us your Mussels"  - Bang the high striker to make the bell ring or get the steel rod as high as possible to show who's got the biggest muscles. Enter on the day and show off to your friends and family.  Male and female categories.
