Young Blenheim musician Clara van Wel got some enthusiastic praise from the judges when she performed in a semifinal episode of the television show New Zealand's Got Talent last night.

Singing her own song, 15-year-old Clara was one of five finalists to perform.

All three judges were impressed that she sang her own composition, and said it was ready for commercial release.

"You are such a brave girl to come in here with your own song, which is ready for the radio," Rachel Hunter said.

Ali Campbell said it was an exceptional performance - "astounding for someone your age" - and the song was ready to be cut as a single.

Fellow music industry judge Jason Kerrison predicted the number would be picked up by a recording label "just like that", he said, as he snapped his fingers.

He would be interested in recording it if no-one else picked it up, he said.

Clara said after coming off stage that she was happy the semifinal round was over, "but I want it to keep going".

She has to wait until next week to find out whether she makes it through for another round.

Vote for her by mid day Tuesday by texting Clara to 8981, or to go the website at
