An online tribute to New Zealand artist Don Binney, who died last month, appears in the international Forbes Magazine.
Binney's art agent, Picton gallery director Barbara Speedy, says the tribute was written by Michael Tobias, who specialises in ecological issues and once visited Mill Creek, Stewart Island, with Binney.
Tobias describes Binney as one of the greatest artists and conservationists in New Zealand, a nation he says has presented superb artists in many fields, including photographer, author and explorer Craig Potton, and painters Nigel Brown and Raymond Ching.
Tobias says Binney's artistic accomplishments and ecological conscience was "uniquely international", his works showing a deep understanding, appreciation for, and vision of sacred Maori landscapes and endemic New Zealand birds. Tributes for Binney are planned in the summer issues of Art News NZ and Art New Zealand magazines.
