Juniors win titles
Two junior members of the Marlborough District Brass Band have won solo sections at the 2013 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships in New Plymouth.
The contest started on Wednesday, when Todd Smith won the junior euphonium title and Logan Ford the under-15 B-flat cornet section.
Thirty bands from around New Zealand are competing in this year's nationals, where judges compare players as solos, duos, ensembles, juniors, masters, and A, B and C-grade bands over five days.
Todd and Logan are members of the A-grade Marlborough District Brass Band.
Success continued on Thursday for Marlborough District Brass Band members.
Clyde Dixon won the open flugel horn section ahead of Grant Langdon from the Trusts Waitakere Brass in second place and Sarah Amel from the North Shore Brass in third.
On the same day, the open tenor horn section was won by Marlborough's Mike Ford.
Behind him in second place was Bill Vail from the Leopard Coachlines Canterbury Brass and Mitchell Spence, Wellington Brass Band, in third.
