MAZDA-ALFA ROADSTER: Such a collaborative effort would have benefits for both companies.

Mazda, Fiat and Alfa Romeo are to collaborate on a new series of rear-drive roadster models, now that Sergio Marchionne has aligned his Chrysler-Fiat group with the Hiroshima-based car maker.

A non-binding memorandum of understanding has been signed, calling for Fiat and Mazda to develop two brand-specific lightweight rear-wheel-drive roadsters, with the Italian and Japanese cars each being driven by engines unique to their own brands, but based on the all-new MX-5.
