Lincoln, Ford's luxury US brand, is to look at the underpinnings of the new generation 2015 Ford Mustang as the base for its rear-wheel drive sedan.
It's understood Mustang is to adopt independent rear suspension and MacPherson struts up front.
It doesn't take much imagination to suggest that we may yet get a new rear-drive Falcon based on the same set up, albeit from the US.
A RWD platform would allow Lincoln to compete with Cadillac and German brands, but a stripper version could be a very useful base for the new Falcon.
However, knowing Ford Australia's experience with IRS and RWD, and Ford and Lincoln's lack of it, we'd develop the platform in Australia – if we ruled the world.
