It was surely motoring madness in the extreme as a police officer in the US pulled over this ridiculously unsafe car.
The rusted out Ford Pinto stationwagon had its gas tank sitting on the front seat with a hose running out the passenger window and under the hood to the engine, the floors were rusted out and a tyre was wedged behind the driver's seat to hold it in place.
A Minnesota State Trooper stopped the car recently on US Highway 52 in Koochiching County.
A State Patrol spokesperson posted photographs of what the Trooper found on the agency's Facebook page.
"Much of the vehicle was rusted out," a police spokesperson told television station KAALTV's website.
Photos also show a clear view through what remains of the floor to the road below.
In a classic understatement, a police spokesperson said: "The car was impounded and the driver was cited for a number of violations."
