An 18-year-old clocked doing 194kmh on a Waikato road has escaped with a minimum fine and disqualification.

Zhivargo Edward Blake Williams was driving on State Highway 1 at Whangamarino - near Te Kauwhata on August 22 about 11.50pm when he was snapped travelling at 194kmh by a police radar.

Williams also had a passenger in his Holden Commodore.

Community magistrate Ngaire Mascelle convicted Williams on a charge of driving at a dangerous speed, fined him $500 and disqualified him from driving for six months.

However, the police prosecutor noted the minimum fine for the offence was $630 and was usually given for travelling just 50kmh over the limit.

Williams was travelling 94kmh over the limit.

Mascelle then raised the fine to $630.
