What cars would the X-Men drive?
The X-Men story has been told in great detail through nine movies to date, including the latest X Men: Apocalypse.
But some of the really big questions are still unanswered. Like, what cars would these superheroes drive?
British website whocanfixmycar.com and graphic illustration specialist NeoMam Studios have collaborated on a series of proposed vehicles for the current generation of X-Men. They're based on production models, but with a few handy modifications to help these mutants keep the upper hand when the going gets tough.
Charles Xavier - Tesla Model X
Tesla cars have transformed the world of transport through science, so what better car for the science-genius Charles Xavier than the latest Tesla Model X? In this super-quick electric SUV, Xavier can zoom through the streets, sourcing other mutants to coach as mighty X-Men at the Xavier Institute. He's well prepared for trouble with bulletproof windows and his inbuilt cerebro.
The Model X's 'falcon wing' doors already give excellent access, but the car is further enhanced with a customised 'hover ramp' for Xavier's wheelchair.
Magneto - BMW M6 Coupe
The BMW M6 is a supercar with a dark side. It hits 100kmh in 3.9 seconds, so Magneto will have no trouble escaping when things turn south. The giant spoiler pays homage to his extravagant cape.
It's not all looks and speed. The car body is made of the same material as his helmet, increasing his resistance to any incoming telepathy. With monster wheels and bulletproof glass, it's no wonder he can rub the other X-Men up the wrong way.
Mystique - BMW i8
With the power to shift from fossil fuel to electric power in a moment, the BMW i8's engine-shifting abilities match Mystique's shape-shifting powers.
Blue scaly skin and flashing yellow headlights complete the package.
Cyclops - Shelby Mustang GT350R
Cyclops has always been a fan of the Shelby Mustang. The GT350R has to be one of the best, with high performance and lightweight carbon fibre wheels.
There's also a visor windscreen and automatic headlamps which double as red optic blasts, so Cyclops can destroy anyone in sight.
Wolverine- Toyota Hilux 1988
The Toyota Hilux is a favourite Down Under. There's an Australian connection to the Wolverine character of course and the X Men Origins: Wolverine movie (2009) was partly filmed in New Zealand. Fun facts.
The 1988 version of the Hilux, as advertised by Barry Crump in NZ and later abused by Top Gear in its heyday, is widely believed to be indestructible. It survived a ride atop a block of flats that was destroyed in a TG segment. Wolverine has the ability to regenerate and has survived death too many times to recall. It's a perfect match.
This no-frills, aged model suits Wolverine. He's been around a long time so knows a good car when he sees one and he doesn't care for the fancy stuff; his life has been filled with suffering, war, loss and betrayal, so shallow things really don't matter.
Custom wheels and retractable blades give him the strength and ferocity to destroy his enemies at the wheel, while the Hilux's go-anywhere abilities get him far away from society when he needs to be alone.
This is way better than the Mazda RX-8 Wolverine drove in X2 (2003).
Jean Grey - Volvo XC90
With the traumatising memory of her sister's death in a car accident, Jean Grey and motor vehicles are not the best of friends. In her line of work, however, she needs a good pair of wheels. She feels safe in the Volvo XC90.
It doesn't stop there: with bulletproof windows and an inbuilt cerebro in the windshield, she can read minds from the safety of the driving seat. So think twice before tailgating Jean Grey; she has the power to induce pain with her mind.
Apocalypse - Mercedes AMG 63 6x6
Apocalypse is the longest-surviving of the X-Men. He drives the largest SUV that exists, complete with an additional pair of wheels. With the ability to tackle any terrain and wade through water, the Mercedes AMG 63 6x6 has extreme strength.
Each armour panel is intricately designed in art from another age. Apocalypse can easily manipulate metals and minds to his advantage.
