A "she'll be right attitude" is concerning a Hamilton motorcycle riding school owner following a spate of crashes in the Waikato.

Hamilton Motorcycle Riding School owner Ward Fisher said young riders were usually blamed, but statistics showed middle-aged "born-again riders", many returning after more than 20 years away from motorbikes, were finding themselves in strife on the roads.

Several motorbike crashes across the Waikato have left two riders fighting for their lives in hospital and at least six others badly injured.

The most recent crash happened yesterday morning, south of Matamata, when a middle-aged Tauranga motorcyclist was struck by a turning truck on State Highway 29. The rider was taken to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.

Motorcyclist Lance Lowe remains in a serious condition in Auckland Hospital after being injured at the annual Paeroa Battle of the Streets race on Sunday. Two other riders were flown to Waikato Hospital with injuries ranging from moderate to serious later in the afternoon. Another motorbike rider was critically injured at a motocross event near Tuakau on Sunday morning.

On Saturday a 40-year-old man was flown to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the Coromandel just after 5pm. Two riders, including a man in his 50s, were hurt at a trailbike event near Te Kuiti on Sunday.

Mr Fisher urged riders to continue educating themselves on roading and technology.
