Holden follows Ford with blacked out ute
It's red versus blue - and everything is black.
Just two weeks after Ford New Zealand introduced a limited-edition black version of its Ranger ute, Holden New Zealand has announced a limited-edition black version of its Colorado ute.
But while Ford says its FX4 Ranger is painted Shadow Black in recognition of the upcoming Lions rugby tour of New Zealand, Holden says its Blackout Colorado is not linked to any sports-related activities - it is so named simply because the ute and all its accessories are black.
What's that we say in New Zealand? Yeah, right. Or could it be that in marketing, timing is everything?
Whatever, the marketing spiel has started.
"We launched the new Holden Colorado to Kiwi motorists six months ago and it has not only received rave reviews but has also attracted significant attention from people desiring a viable alternative in the light commercial segment," says Holden NZ's general manager of marketing, Marnie Samphier.
"However, the new special edition Blackout model really stands apart from the standard Colorado and makes even more of a statement in the looks department."
"The Holden Blackout pack is designed especially for Holden Colorado. It makes a bold statement in the looks department and the addition of the factory accessories creates a real wow factor."
And here's what Ford NZ says about its black ute.
"It is a tough ask taking a vehicle that is already a winning combination of capability and design, and making it even better," says Jeremy Nash, marketing manager for light commercials and SUVs.
"The FX4 makes a great ute even more extraordinary with its unique style and boldness, and that's a difficult thing to do with a vehicle that already looks great."
