New Ford Mustang the 'ultimate stunt car'?
A well-known former member of the Top Gear team has annointed Ford's new Mustang as the ultimate stunt car.
Ben Collins was, for eight years, "The Stig" test driver on the BBC's hugely-popular Top Gear motoring show but left before the recent turmoil that resulted in presenter Jeremy Clarkson being sacked with Richard Hammond and James May following him out the door.
Collins is a top stunt and racing driver and has just completed a movie called "Ben Collins: Stunt Driver" in which he puts an array of high-performance road and competition cars through a series of Top Gear-like explosive and high-speed challenges featuring aerobatic planes, helicopter gunships and military machines.
With the 5-litre V8 Mustang winning top billing, other cars include an Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, Mini, McLaren P1, BMW, Audi, a classic notchback Mustang, a Chevrolet Nascar racer and the Ariel Nomad.
"The point of this adventure was to find the perfect car for an epic, high octane, Hollywood-style car chase, and it's the iconic Ford Mustang that gets top billing," Collins said.
"Mustang has starred in many a classic car chase during the past 50 years, and is still the stunt driver's weapon of choice to leave the bad guys standing in a cloud of tyre smoke."
Collins' movie stunt driving credits include the James Bond films Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, as well as The Dark Knight Rises and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
