Bad news for crooks trying to evade cops in Dubai: there's a fair chance they won't be able to outrun the newest police car on the beat.

The extravagant emirate's police force has added a Bugatti Veyron – the world's fastest road-legal production car, and one of the most expensive – to its patrol car fleet.

Police chief Dhahi Khalfan tweeted a picture of the circa-$3 million Veyron SuperSport in patrol car livery. It's capable of topping 430 kmh.

Just last month the force also added a new Lamborghini Aventador, which has a top speed of 350kmh

The force's multimillion dollar fleet also includes an Aston Martin One-77, Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari FF and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

UAE news site The National claims the cars are being purchased with the aim of bolstering the chances of Dubai hosting Expo 2020.
