Porsche maybe the headline act this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, but the four-day event is simply another motoring feast for all car enthusiasts.

Goodwood's 20th event began overnight (NZ time) and will continue through until Sunday night (NZ time).

Porsche, celebrating 50 years, has been given the festival pedestal for the weekend and it has been further honoured with a memorable ''Central Feature'' display.

To date, the legendary Porsche coupe has featured at every single Goodwood Festival, from the first event in 1993 – when an unexpectedly high 27,500 enthusiasts turned-up – to the 185,000 plus visitors that attended the celebration of car culture last year.

Those attending are spoilt for choice with the world's most luxurious cars side by side with the more mundane that many of us drive each day.

Check our gallery of photos above from the first day of the 2013 festival.
