A German couple have used 40 kilograms of wool to produce a "knitted robe" for their much-loved Volkwagen convertible.
It took Marthe and Magnus Schwarz of Neustadt/Holstein seven months to create their multi-coloured car jumper which was named "most beautiful" at the ninth Beetle Sunshine Tour on the Baltic Coast at the weekend.
"It's been so much fun," Marthe said.
The tour attracted 414 Volkswagen Beetles in all possible shapes and sizes for what is being dubbed the largest gathering of fans of all "round" Volkswagen models - Beetle, New Beetle and The Beetle.
Vehicles from all over Europe attended the event.
One of the specialities of the Sunshine Tour is that not only the cars put on fancy costumes but the visitors do as well. Whether glamour Beetle, rock ’n’ roll Beetle, wedding Beetle, beach Beetle, 007 Beetle or Charleston Beetle – the best idea and realisation are what matters.
On a second stage, another trio was making its grand debut: The new iBeetle from Volkswagen, which had its European premiere at the event, were presented alongside the Beetle Cabrio Exclusive from Volkswagen R GmbH, and the Beetle GSR – one of a limited edition of only 3500 vehicles.
