Dodge has upped the bragging rights in the modern muscle car era with a 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat blasting a quarter-mile run in 10.8 seconds.
That, according to Dodge, makes it the most powerful muscle car ever also the fastest muscle car ever.
Dodge took the 6.2-litre 707 horsepower monster that comes through the company's first factory supercharged Hemi to a US drag strip and raced it alongside its iconic 1971 Challenger from which the 2015 version has taken interior design cues from.
In certified US Hot Rod Association runs, the Hellcat first posted 11.2secs at 201.1 kmh with stock Pirelli P275/40ZR20 P Zero tyres. When fitted with drag radials, the time was cut to 10.8secs and 202.7 kmh.
