A Napier woman last seen in June 2007 "is likely" to be dead, Coroner Peter Ryan has found.
But the cause of Annabelle Tumanako's death was unknown, as was the location of the place where she died.
The mother-of-five's body has never been found.
Tumanako's car was found in the early hours of June 24 parked near the Westshore Hotel, on the outskirts of Napier.
"It would be very nice to be able to say to the family what happened, why it happened and when it happened, but unfortunately I cannot do that because I just do not have enough evidence to be able to do so," Ryan said.
Tumanako, who was 35 when she disappeared, had some mental health issues, but no reported history of suicide attempts or suicidal ideation.
Police had not been able to find any strong evidence to suggest she was the victim of foul play, Ryan said.
He made an open finding as to the cause, place and time of death.
